Prambanan Temple
Prambanan Temple, which was founded in the 9th century AD, is the largest Complex of Hindu temples in Indonesia. Roro Jonggrang Temple is other name  for this temples, a name that refers to the local fairy tale that accompanied the construction of the temple.

This temple is a form of offering to Trimurti, the three main Hindu gods, namely the god Brahma as the creator god, the god Vishnu as the guardian god, and the god Shiva as the god of destruction.

The location is located on the edge of the Yogyakarta -Klaten highway (a municipality in Central Java). This temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia, as well as one of the most beautiful temples in Southeast Asia. The architecture of this building is tall and slender in accordance with Hindu architecture in general with the Shiva temple as the main temple having a height of up to 47 meters rising in the middle of a complex of clusters of smaller temples. As one of the grandest temples in Southeast Asia, Prambanan temple is an attraction for tourists from all over the world.

According to the Siwagrha inscription, this temple was built around 850 AD by Rakai Pikatan, and continued to be developed and expanded by Balitung Maha Sambu, during the Medang Mataram kingdom. The Capital of Mataram now located around City of Jogja.

Fairy Tale Behind.

There is a fairy tale that even today is still a local legend that accompanies and spice up the story of the construction of these magnificent temples. The main character of this story is Dewi Roro Jonggrang, a beautiful girl, the daughter of the ruler of the Prambanan area at that time.

On the other hand there is a young king named Bandung Bondosowo who is ambitious. He was involved in a conflict with the ruler of Prambanan, the climax was the battle that resulted in the death of Roro Jonggrang's father!

However, even though his father was a big enemy, Bandung Bondowoso, when he first saw the appearance of Dewi Roro Jonggrang, immediately fell in love and one might even say to the point of being intoxicated…

Of course the princess could not immediately accept Bandung Bondowoso's love, considering that even though he was a young king and handsome, he was the killer of his beloved father.

To avoid Bandung Bondowoso's wrath, Roro Jonggrang proposed an 'almost impossible' condition by asking Bandung Bondowoso to build a thousand temples in one night as a condition, so that she could accept Bandung's love. With confidence Bandung Bondowoso agreed to these terms.

So when it was dusk, Bandung Bondowoso, who could mobilize spirits, immediately summoned these invisible friends to build a thousand temples according to the princess's request.

So immediately thousands of these invisible creatures came to help Bandung Bondowoso build a thousand temples overnight. Everything went perfectly, hundreds of temples were awakened overnight. Unfortunately, just before dawn Dewi Roro Jonggrang realized that Bandung Bondowoso could almost fulfill the conditions she asked for. Meanwhile, the impossible conditions were just a way of gently refusing a marriage offer from Bandung Bondowoso. Then Jonggrang panicked and frantic!

With the help of her friends, Dewi Roro Jonggrang found a way to stop the 'magic' created by Bandung Bondowoso.

She and her friends woke up all the Prambanan women, then they were asked to ring all the sound tools and burn the rice straw in the east of the area so that the invisible creatures of Bandung Bondowoso's friends thought that it was already morning and they would immediately return to their origins even though the work had not been completed.

Jonggrang's deception was successful, the spirits were deceived into thinking that it was already morning and they rushed away leaving the work unfinished.

Knowing Roro Jonggran's trick, Bandung Bondowoso was furious. Then the beautiful woman was cursed to become a statue to complete the one statue that had not been finished that night!

Of course, those are just fairy tales that are common as a complement to all the major events that have taken place in Indonesia in the past. Whatever background he has, this temple is a beautiful temple, a gift of archeology for all mankind. This site has contributed culturally, economically and socially so far.
