Balinese Wine

Arak Bali is a type of alcoholic beverage that is traditionally produced in Bali. The alcohol content of Balinese Arak can reach 30-50% depending on the manufacturing process. Balinese Arak can be a complement to other alcoholic drinks such as brandy or whiskey.

Arak Bali has now been designated as Indonesia's Intangible Cultural Heritage (WBTb) in 2022. Arak Bali as Indonesia's WBTb was stipulated by the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology.

The government of the Province of Bali pays special attention to the production and distribution of Balinese alcoholic beverages or Arak Bali. This is contained in the Governor of Bali Regulation Number 1 of 2020 concerning Management of Balinese Fermented and/or Distilled Beverages.

Arak Bali and People of Bali.

As a alcohol drink, masyarakat Bali pun using and enjoying  Arak Bali as an alcohol drinking  water as usual. Balinese Arak can also be found in hotels and restaurants in Bali, and it is also easy to find in supermarkets there. However, unlike in other places, as an alcoholic drink, Balinese arak also functions as a medicine or an ingredient in traditional Balinese medicine. Besides that, Balinese wine is an important part that must be present in various Balinese traditional and religious rituals.

From the recognition of the Balinese people, this type of drink, although alcoholic, does not cause unpleasant effects when you wake up after drinking it, such as dizziness, etc.

Raw Material and Production Process

The raw material for the production process of Arak Bali is sap. Which is tapped from the palm trees that are easy to find there. This material is also used in other areas in Indonesia for the production of palm wine. This raw material is also used for the production of coconut sugar.


Refining Proces

The palm sap is then distilled in the traditional way, boiled with firewood and the flute pipe uses bamboo instead of plastic. The results of the distillation are then fermented using coconut coir to make it faster and produce a distinctive taste.
