Place to Visit in Bali-3 : Bedugul


Bedugul is a mountain lake resort area in Bali, Indonesia, located in the centre-north region of the island near Lake Beratan on the road between Denpasar and Singaraja.  Bedugul is located at 48 kilometres (30 mi) north of the city of Denpasar.  Other nearby lakes are Lake Buyan, and Lake Tamblingan.

Bedugul enjoys a mild mountain weather due to its location at an altitude of about 1,500 metres (4,900 ft) above the sea level.

Major sites in Bedugul are the Pura Ulun Danu Bratan water temple and the Eka Karya Botanic Gardens. The Botanic Garden, opened in 1959. With a total area of 157.5 hectares (389 acres) is the largest in Indonesia

Danau Bratan (Lake Beratan)



Beratan Lake is a shallow lake with the high caldera about 1231m above sea level and it is located at Bedugul, the famous tourist destinations in Bali. This lake have wide 3,8 km2 and also its deepness is up to 22 meters. The water volume in this lake is about 0,049 km3, so Beratan Lake is the closed lake. Tourist can access the Beratan Lake through the dock which have been provided or desist around Ulun Danu Beratan Temple. In this place, the visitor can do various activities like doing recreation to look around in dock or do the other outdoor activities. The various water recreation activities can also be conducted here, for example riding the boat motorize to circle the lake, parasailing, canoeing with the traditional boat, banana boating, water skiing, and others. Fishing activities are also available in this places for who one love fishing in the lake.

Beratan Lake is situated in the plateau area with cool atmosphere surround it. It is an ideal place for relaxation while enjoy the beautiful panorama of lake. The accommodations are also available in this area where is the perfect place for overnight stay, resting and enjoy the beautiful panoramic of lake with the Ulun Danu Temple as a magnificence. The small scale of agriculture activities are likely conducted around this lake and can be perceived at the same time circle around it. If we encircle it, we can take photograph with the beautiful background view or make the picture sketch face in painting mini studio at the lakeside with a short time as a souvenir.

The Bali Botanic Garden
The Bali Botanic Garden is located at Bedugul area in the middle of Bali island about 60 KM from Denpasar. Public transportation is not convenient due to irregular schedule, visitors adviced to use tourist bus, car, taxi, or motorbike.  This garden is apart of Indonesian Botanic Gardens network which is comprises of four gardens (Bali, Bogor, Cibodas, and Purwodadi) under the authority of Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI).

Bali Botanic Garden is unique in Bali as a place for botanical research, conservation, education and recreation. It provides a place where you can relax in beautiful and peaceful surroundings while learning about the use of plants in the daily lives of Balinese people as well as many interesting tropical rainforest plants and birdlife. 

The Bali Botanic Garden is situated on 1250-1450 m alt. with area 157.5 hectares (389 acres). Temperature is about 17 - 25 centigrade in daytime drop to 10 - 15 centigrade at night with humidity 70-90%. The weather is unpredictable, please prepare warm clothe, umbrella or rain coat.

The Garden managing more than 2000 species of plants represent plants from montage areas of the eastern Indonesia: Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua. New plants are acquired from commercial nurseries, arboreta, botanic gardens, plant breeding programs and collecting expeditions.

Tamblingan Lake
Tamblingan Lake is a lake located in the plateau area with green hill surrounded. It is situated adjunction to Buyan Lake with cool weather. It has the fascination where the nature authenticity can be felt and the inexistence of motorized boat here. These beautiful lakes can be seen from the top hill right from Asah Gobleg Countryside, Sukasada District and Singaraja regency, north part of  Bali. This lake is ideal for Jungle Trekking Adventure because it is very amazing with the rain forest including flora and fauna observation. Beside of that, many local visitors are doing camping program or outdoor team building while enjoy the beautiful nature. Here we can also see the local residents use the small traditional boat which is called Perahu to cross the lake or do fishing.

The existence of monkey which is not far from these two lakes are precisely located beside the main road from Denpasar to Singaraja. In progressively, the amounts are more and more dwelling this area and it was one of fascination for tourist who visit it. It is located in Sukasada sub district, 21 km south side of Singaraja. It is situated in the high land about 1000 meters above sea level so that the atmosphere is rather cold and chilled at night.

There are some puras (temples) surrounding the edge of the lake.

Buyan Lake 
Buyan Lake is a smallest lake in Bali located just next to Tamblingan Lake. It is located in the plateau area and covered by cool weather. It is situated in the high land with hill and rain forest surround it. Since the location in the plateau area, the fog is usually blanketing the area. This lake can be seen from the top of hill which is called Asah Gobleg. Asah Gobleg itself is the name of the countryside located on the top of hill where the villagers live with agricultural life.

Buyan Lake has the broadness about 3,9 km, with the maximum of deepness is 87 meters and the water volume is 0,116 km3. As a tourist destination, in Buyan Lake has been available the stop point with traditional chair along the road. The temperature in this place is relatively cool in particular at night and it is many visited by tourists in particular from local.
