DEBUS - An Extra Extreme Show | Intimate Indonesia

Debus is one of some others traditional extra extreme show of Indonesia. Today, this traditional show is still very popular especially in Banten and West Java region. Debus will always be a must show for some important mass event in Banten, and people also will always enthusiastic to enjoy the show.

Debus art show basically comes from the martial arts of Banten who demonstrates exceptional human abilities, for example, immune to the sword, resistant to fire and others.

According from some literatures, Debus Show already performed since 16th century, when Islamic Kingdom of Banten led by Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin, this art growth through traditional hermitages of martial arts and Islamic boarding schools in Banten. On the Dutch Colonial times Debus become a part of Banten indigenous capability in rebellion again the colonialist. Debus move from martial art into a mass show by the time.

Debus show not only perform ‘Super Man’ show, but also showing traditional dance and traditional sing.

Recently the main show that becomes pattern on a Debus show included:

• Belly piercing with a spear or other weapon without getting hurt.
• Cutting parts of the body with a knife or sword.
• Consuming fire.
• Wire needles into the tongue, cheek skin or other body part to redeem without bleeding.
• Flushing the body with hard water up to the clothing worn pulverized crushed but the skin remains intact.
• Fry an egg on the head. Body burned with fire.
• Climb or take a sharp cleaver arrangement.
• Rolling on top of pieces of glass or porcelain.

In every show, Debus always lead by a master. The leader responsible to manage all everything included things regarding to the supernatural power that allow in the show.

Debus not only show in Banten, but can also be found in Aceh and other region of West Java Province.
