A Hidden Paradise


Karimunjawa Islands is a cluster of small islands located in Java Sea; administratively this islands are a part of Jepara district, Central Java Province, Indonesia. Altogether, there are 27 islands that member of Karimunjawa Islands territory, but not all of them are occupied. Inhabitants only occupy Karimunjawa Island, Kemujan Island, Parang Island, Nyamuk Island, and Genting Island.

Formally, almost entire of Karimunjawa Islands is part of the Karimunjawa National Park, so that, practically entire of Karimunjawa Islands territory is a conservation area. In Karimunjawa Islands, we can find various tropical types of flora and fauna both living in the land or in the aquatic habitats. Several types of natural tourist can be done at once in the same area.


What can you expect from Karimunjawa?

A. Serenity Beaches covered with white sand.

White sandy beaches stretching in the almost the entire islands member of Karimunjawa archipelago. White sand beaches with a carpet of coconut trees can be found everywhere in Karimunjawa. In addition to the white sand, beaches in Karimun Java also offer blue sea with marine life that is still very well preserved. A variety of shallow marine reef fish species can be found there. Several of coral, soft coral, sponges, and other marine life unfold in a beautiful navy blue blanket; some of the beaches on these islands are safe for swimming. Of course, if you would like to dive you can explore Karimunjawa ocean depths safely. But if you really want to enjoy the sea and its beauty but you unable to swim, so you can use a glass boat which takes you to explore the beach while enjoying the beauty of Karimunjawa. Here also are a variety of water sports facilities like Jet Ski and banana boat.

c. Touching and Swimming with the Sharks.
In Menjangan Island, one part of Karimunjawa Islands there is location where we can make a direct contact with the sharks in a pond. A safe contact as long as you obeys to the rule that have been defined. The sharks that were there are not the domesticated sharks, but the sharks that already accustomed to human contact. This is a kind of adventure, isn’t it?

d. Ecotourism and Mainland Landscape.

As a protection area, Karimunjawa also has mainland biodiversity that relatively preserved. Diversity on these islands is typical of a small tropics island ecosystem. You can find deer, pangolin, porcupine, various types of stork, a rare sea eagle, and some others. The rehabilitation of several rare species of sea turtles, especially on process of releasing back into the origin habitat is also open to public participation. Inviting your beloved to involve for a conservation processing of endangered sea turtles may be one fun thing that you can choose to celebrate your holidays.

How to reach Karimunjawa?

-From some other main tourist destinations in Indonesia to Semarang City

a.      Jakarta - Semarang

b.      Denpasar(Bali)-Semarang

c.       Jogjakarta-Semarang

Jakarta & Denpasar to Semarang, about 1 hour flight. Jogjakarta to Semarang road transport about 1.5 hours.

-From Semarang to Karimunjawa

a. By Boat:

-From Tanjung Emas harbor, Semarang to Karimunjawa only operated every Saturday and Monday, the boat name is KMC Kartini I. If you would like to confirm the boat schedule please call Dinas Perhubungan dan Telekomunikasi, Jawa Tengah  tlp. 62-24-7602952.

-From Jepara harbor, Jepara to Karimunjawa. You have to take land transport from Semarang to Jepara City first then take the boat from Jepara harbor to Karimunjawa. Details of schedule can be checked to PT ASDP Jepara, tlp 62-291-591048

b. Air Charter:
