Yogyakarta City or mostly called as Jogja, is one of the two Javanese Cultural Center cities, besides Surakarta (Solo). Administratively Yogyakarta is capital city of a provincial territory Yogyakarta Special Region, a special region that covering ex Mataram Kingdom Territory, because Yogyakarta Kingdom formally was self-disbanded and joint to Republic of Indonesia since August 17, 1945. Now Sultan Jogja (King of Jogjakarta) formally takes hold as Governor for Special Region of Yogyakarta, a provincial territory of Republic of Indonesia.
More to know as a cultural city, Jogja also knows as education city center of Indonesia, where several higher education institutions and universities like Gajah Mada University the oldest university in Indonesia are located. In addition Jogja also famous recognized as one of main tourist destinations of Indonesia outside Bali Island and the Royal Palace functioned as a limited tourist object. The city icon of Jogja is Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Royal Palace or Keraton Jogja, the residential house of Yogyakarta’s Sultan (Sultan Jogja), King of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat.
Jogja can be reached in about 1-hour from Denpasar, Bali by flight. There are more than five regular flights a day from and to Denpasar.

Malioboro Street is the central of tourism in Jogja; along this street, you can enjoy various tourism attraction, souvenirs stalls, and Jogja people daily lives. You can also find hotels and restaurants easily here.

Pasar Beringharjo is the biggest traditional market in the city and a famous Traditional Market in Yogyakarta, located at Jl Pabringan 1, Yogyakarta 55122 (north of Vredeburg Fort), literally means slanted land. The vendors sell much kind of goods, ranging from basic household items, handicrafts, clothes and many more.

Founded by the Dutch Colonial Administration in 1765, this fort has strong historical ties with the birth of the Sultanate of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat. Located at Jl. Jenderal Ahmad Yani 6, in front of Gedung Agung (President's Palace), from this fort we can enjoy the Dutch colonial architecture. A few warfare items are still preserved, including twin cannon.
Kotagede

Kota Gede used to the capital of the Islamic Mataram Kingdom; formerly Kotagede also the center of economic activity. The rest of the past glory still appears in the remains of an imposing building with a romantic old-fashioned, although some buildings have been modernized or replaced with newer buildings, Kotagede remains a prime example of ancient Javanese architecture and city structure. Kotagede now better known as a center of high-grade silver industry in Indonesia, you can find high-class local silver handicrafts directly from the makers by visiting theirs shops which are scattered all over Kotagede.
Affandi Museum
Affandi is the most famous painter of Indonesia; we can find several of his collections on Affandi museum. Located on Jl Gajah Wong, Adi Sucipto 167, the museum is opened every day at 9:00 am to 13:00 pm.
Sonobudoyo Museum

Sonobudoyo Museum located at Jl. Trikora No. 06, is an Indonesian history and culture museum, their collection included Neolithic pottery and bronze statues from 8th century, various models of Keri’s and Javanese architectural building.
Prawirotaman
Prawirotaman located about five kilometers away from the city center, this area also famous as tourist village. Prawirotaman designed as urban village, we can easily find backpacker hotels, tourist agent, café, bookshop, art shop, and other tourist facilities. Prawirotaman also knew as center of batik.
Other tourist sites near to Yogyakarta are Prambanan Temple, Solo Cultural City, Borobudur Temple,, and Sukuh Temple.
